Stung Treng is the first stop along the Mekong when entering from Laos. It immediately feels like an authentic and off the beaten track place. When I showed my passport while checking in in a Chinese hotel the owner only said "No!, money ". And that exhausted his English conversation skills. There are no real attractions, but I rent a mountain bike and explore the other side of the river. The roads are unpaved and bumpy. Rickety wooden bridges span small streams. I cycle past scattered wooden houses with the occasional few shops the equivalent of a village. Along the boulevard the rickety houses are very scenic. As is the pajama market.
